Scotland's Buddhist Vihara 10th Anniversary Celebration

Scotland Buddhist Vihara will be celebrating its 10th anniversary on the 30th of June; at Partick Burgh Hall in Glasgow. The ultimate success of these events lies with the quality of the planning, organising and contributions of the participants. With that in mind, your participation and support would be gratefully received.

On the 29th of June, 8:00 p.m. there will be Paritta Chanting conducted by ten Monks, who will be chanting Maha Piritha from a beautiful pavilion which has been skilfully constructed by the devotees of the Scotland Buddhist Vihara. We are especially honoured and grateful to have some of the UK’s most recognised and senior monks in attendance for the chanting, including:

  • The Head Monk of Birmingham Maha Vihara accompanied by a fine deputation of resident monks
  • The Head Monk of Jetavana Buddhist Vihara of Birmingham also accompanied by resident Monks
  • Head Monk of Lester Buddhist Vihara and resident Monks.

On the 30th June at Partick Burgh Hall, programme starts at:

9:30 a.m. the Hall will be open to the organisers.

11:00 a.m. Offerings to the Buddha and 11:30 a.m. Dana for Monks and Nuns.

12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Lunch for laypeople and devotees. Please feel free to enjoy a vegetarian lunch and if you are not sure about how spicy any of the food maybe, then please don’t hesitate to ask a Sri Lankan person for clarification.

Some of the distinguished guests who will be in attendance include:
    
  • Sister Ajahn Chandasiri, a Buddhist Nun born in Edinburgh Therevadan-Thai Forest Tradition, has been instrumental in fostering deeper harmonious relations and understanding between Buddhist and Christian communities. Ordained in 1979, four years later she took Siladhara vows.
  • Mr Brian Cox and his wife, Nicole. Mr Cox is a Dundee born native and Hollywood actor of numerous successful motion picture blockbusters; also currently serving as the rector of Dundee University
  • Bob Doris MSP for Glasgow(SNP) a Maryhill resident and campaigner who is a close friend of the Buddhist Vihara

    Deputy High Commissioner and Minister Consular from Sri Lankan High Commission.
