The Annual Kathina Ceremony 2008

The Annual Kathina Ceremony at Scotland’s Buddhist Vihara.

Scotland’s Buddhist Vihara, Maryhill, Glasgow held it’s annual Kathina ceremony on 08th November 2008 with the participation of both the Sri Lankan and Scottish communities.

After Buddha Puja, Dana was offered to the Maha Sanga. The Venerable Rewatha Thero, head monk of SBV delivered a welcome speech explaining the significance of the Katina ceremony and introducing the guests for the ceremony.

Katina robes were offered to the Maha Sangha with the utmost respect by devotees. The Robe Offering Ceremony was conducted by Venerable Ethalawetunuwewe Gnanathilaka Thero, The Head monk of Mirisavetiya Chetiya Vihara, Sri Lanka.

The Venerable Nahalle Rahula, Head of Letchworth Buddhist Vihara conducted the Puja.
After the Dana meal, a special Dhamma sermon was delivered by Venerable Mirisawetitiya Nayaka Thero. This was an eye opening sermon in Sinhala for Sri Lankans living in Scotland.

The devotees of the Vihara expressed their admiration for the service rendered by the Most Venerable Pelenda Gnanarathana Thero, the head monk of Sri Subhadraramaya, Omatta,Sri Lanka, during his stay at Scotland’s Buddhist Vihara.

There were two special guests for the ceremony from the Scottish parliament.
MSP Mr. Bob Dorris who is a great supporter of the SBV charity and Ms Anne McLauhlin, Research officer and European Parliamentary candidate of the Scottish parliament were warmly welcome to the ceremony.
